First, identify who issued the notice
The City of Tampa and unincorporated Hillsborough County are not interchangeable permitting jurisdictions. Tampa has its own Construction Services division. County Development Services records guidance addresses properties in unincorporated Hillsborough County. Check the issuing agency on the notice and confirm the property jurisdiction. A Tampa mailing address alone should not determine which process you follow. City of Tampa Construction Services · County records guidance
Include any case or permit number when you contact RFH. If you are unsure which department is involved, start with the full notice and property location.
City of Tampa construction violations and stop-work notices
Tampa's Construction Activity Compliance program addresses construction compliance through its Construction Services department. Its official resources distinguish construction violations and stop-work notices from other types of code concerns. Tampa Construction Activity Compliance
For a stop-work violation notice, the city's guidance directs recipients to stop work, contact the inspector listed on the notice with questions and address the violation within the stated timeline. Keep the notice available when contacting the department. Tampa stop-work notice guidance
RFH can help review the construction issue, organize questions about permit requirements and coordinate supporting information or project professionals. An inquiry to RFH does not change the notice, extend a deadline or authorize work to restart.
Unpermitted work in unincorporated Hillsborough County
Hillsborough County's homeowner guidance says to stop ongoing work started without the proper permit and contact its permitting office for information about an after-the-fact permit. The same guidance makes clear that filing an application is not the same as receiving a permit. Hillsborough County homeowner permit guidance
For a property with an existing notice, keep the case information and instructions together with the permit records. RFH can help organize the history and coordinate questions about the construction, supporting information and appropriate professionals.

What coordination may involve
Your situation may call for organizing existing plans, clarifying the scope of work cited in the notice, coordinating an application or resubmittal, involving qualified independent professionals, or following up on inspections and outstanding documents.
RFH defines its consulting and coordination scope by agreement. Engineering, architecture, surveying, specialty trade work and corrective construction are not assumed to be included. The jurisdiction determines what is required and whether the response is acceptable.

Deadlines, hearings and legal questions
Read the full notice and keep track of every date. Do not postpone contacting the issuing department while waiting for a consultant. If the matter involves a hearing, appeal, fines, liens or a dispute about legal responsibility, seek advice from a qualified attorney promptly.
RFH does not provide legal advice or representation and does not promise that a violation, fine or order will be removed. Permit coordination is only the agreed construction-related part of the response.
Questions before you contact us
What kinds of violations does RFH help with?
Our focus is construction-related permit and building code issues, including unpermitted work and permit requirements associated with a stop-work notice. General nuisance complaints, parking and unrelated neighborhood disputes are not the focus of this service.
What should I have ready?
The property location, full notice, case or permit number, description of the work and any deadline. Existing plans, inspection comments and correspondence may also help. You do not need to upload documents in the initial form.
What if there is also an open or expired permit?
Mention both issues. RFH can discuss how the available permit history relates to the construction problem. We do not assume that closing a permit automatically closes a separate violation case.
Can existing work remain as it is?
That cannot be promised before the requirements and condition are established. The jurisdiction and appropriately qualified professionals determine what information, evaluations or corrective work may be necessary.
How much will it cost?
RFH's scope and fees are established by agreement after discussing the issue. Jurisdiction fees, independent professional services and corrective work are separate as applicable. No fixed price or completion date is promised before the scope is understood.
